this phyogeny is based on morphological data collected and analyzed by Buz Wilson and Steve Keable
at present Phreatoicidea are divided into three families
Hypsimetopodidae which include the only genus from India, other members in the family occur in Tasmania, Western Australia, and Victoria
the families Phreatoicidae and Amphisopodidae are not monophyletic and the suborder is being revised based on new morphological and molecular data
as is shown here problems with the present classification include one clade of Phreatoicidae is contained in Amphisopodidae, and
one genus presently classified as an amphisopodean nestled in amongst the Phreatoicidae
